The Monastery

The monastery story started over 150 years ago when it was built in 1861 and was at the heart of the community for over a century until industrial decline and its closure. A charitable trust was formed in 1996 and successfully campaigned to save the building. Now a Grade II listed building, it has been lovingly restored to create a stunning wedding, banqueting and special events space making it a perfect and unique venue. The Pugin designed Monastery was previously a Church and Friary and is filled with character from it’s historic past. The restoration blends the old with the new, creating a contemporary venue full of charm making it the ideal wedding venue.
